Chris McCandless “Alex Supertramp” Goes Into the Wild

It was in late April of 1992 that Chris / Alex found himself soaking in the hot and steamy waters of the Liard River Hot Springs in northern British Columbia. He spent three days enjoying the heat and comfort that was offered, surrounded by the tall trees, anticipating his final push into Alaska’s wilderness. It was when he met the friendly trucker Gaylord Stuckey at the springs that he was able to realize his dream of getting to America’s wild frontier.

If you are making the trip to shadow Alex Supertramp’s trip to the Fairbanks Bus (sans la tragédie, s’il vous plait), you owe it to yourself to stop here… And three days may not be enough. Make sure you read Jon Krakauer’s book Into the Wild while you make the trip.

You should also watch the movie at some point on your journey… oh… and listen to the soundtrack by Eddie Vedder. If you are not a Supertramp fan, you still need to spend some time at this beautiful spot and consider where you fit into this planet of ours.
